Week 8 Power Rankings: “If you think people are mad now, just wait til we miss the playoffs”.
Breaking news....
Greasy Mitts first ever trade has been proposed, agreed to, and reviewed by the board of directors. Please stay close to your phones over the next two days as the captains/GM will be reaching out to those impacted. No hard feelings on this one boys, as this is simply a business decision that was made going into the playoffs. Rumor has it that there was some under the table money exchanged as well for an undisclosed amount.
Now on to the power rankings this week. We are inching closer to the playoff push and have seen some emerging leaders in the standings along with some surprising changes in the standings, however keep in mind that on any given night, anything can happen.
Green - they have been the leader of the pack all season lead by powerlifter Randy Gallatin who may have pulled off the most arrogant bet of the year by betting on himself and delivering. Will James "the real deal" Mikesh be able to continue leading the league in GAA is yet to be determined and will Dan Donnette's ego get in the way now that he is not the leading scorer on the team? Bottom line is they have been the consistent league leader on the standings and continue to produce results.
Orange - With solid D play from Luke Volk this team has pulled into the #2 spot in the standings. They are lead offensively by Josh "leg kick" Brand who some are saying plays like a Kris Letang however I don't think he will be making all hockey hair teams anytime soon. Will the rest of the teams be able to crack Benik's stand up wrong handed goalie style before the playoffs is yet to be determined.
Blue - with the lack of commitment on this team it is hard to believe they are in the 3rd place at this point in the season. It seems as though they are a team of 3 as they can never seem to field a full squad however new comer to the league Dustin Postell has managed to hold down the back end while still scoring 16 goals as a stay home defensemen. Could he be the sleeper pick in the Greasy Mitts weekly scoring pick em as the third highest scorer of the week, maybe. Jake Kogler, Bethel alum has a spin on the Kiki challenge that starts off with "Jesus, do you love me" and I think it could be the glue that keeps this team on the upward trajectory.
Black - This team has struggled all year to find their identity however don't count them out as they have two of the top goal scorers in the league at this point. Will the fact that Justin Brausen and John Haider finally realize that when you take 30 shots a game you will score more goals then others or will the love of personal accolades stop this team from getting out of last place in the standings. Championships are won from the net out and they will need solid goaltending from Justin Grant and improved defense to move up in the standings, however Jason Anderson needs to improve his offense as he only has 13 goals this year thus far. I would suggest using latex to improve the hands and we all know, practice makes perfect.
Yellow - What can i say about this team...I see the roster and look at the credentials and it is puzzling in the fact that 3 of them are reining Greasy Mitts Champions, two of them have more cups then most teams combined, and one of them tells stories of how he used to play with some of the greatest hockey players of the modern era, yet they cannot win more than one game a week. With Bosben out this week and next, Mike Kopesky needs to channel his impeccable resume and pedigree and push this team towards the top of the standings. Hopefully with his recent weight loss he didn't also lose his heart and motivation.
That is it for this week and stay tuned for the groundbreaking news that will be announced on Wednesday related to the trade. As I noted above this is business and only the strongest will survive and move forward.
